Institutional opening in the World Pride 2017 at the “Matadero” of Madrid. The Matadero is a new 2017 “venue” to the Madrid Gay Pride.

The Matadero is of a former slaughterhouse and market complex from the early 20th century, converted into a cultural venue since 2005. The place is huge, composed of old buildings and large open air areas. It has a stunning architecture and is definitely worth a visit.

Located 2 km South of Atocha train Station, 4 km from Chueca, next to “Madrid Rio”. The neighborhood is quite far from city center & known gay areas. Matadero is know by Madrid’s people for being a “terraza de verano”, a summer terrace to enjoy street art, music & drinks all the summer.

How to get to the Matadero? It’s pretty easy:
– By cab, just ask “Matadero” to the Taxi Driver. The entrance is “Paseo de la Chopera, 14
– By metro: Legazpi (Line 3 or 6)

Important info !!! Some Streets of Chueca are under complete renovation and works WILL NOT be completed in time for the celebration of the World Pride, as it has begun in April 2017 and are supposed to last a year approximately.

Hopefully works will be interrupted during the festivities. Impacted streets are: Santa Brígida, Farmacia, Hernán Cortés, Augusto Figueroa, San Marcos, Infantas, de la Reina, Costanilla de los Capuchinos, San Bartolomé, Barbieri y Libertad. So expect  a construction site ambiance in vibrant Chueca 🙂

Saturday, july 1st 2017:
World Pride Madrid Street Parade

The Parade is obviously the central act of World Pride Madrid 2017, taking place in the main street know as “Paseo del Prado”, starting by 18:00 at “Atocha train Station” and ending around midnight at “Plaza de Colón” passing the Madrid City Hall. Why does it start so late? Just because you won’t wake up that early in Madrid and temperature will be much more comfortable at sunset! It’s generally possible to buy cheap drinks all around, the true problem is to go to the toilets, we hope this problem will be solved this year thanks to temporary public toilets…
The Parade is a must, do not miss it: get ready to see amazing costumes, 30 floats with music and shows… Go to Madrid Center like Chueca afterwards, the party does really end at sunrise….

Sunday, july 2nd 2017:
Closing Party

The last act of the World Pride Madrid 2017 will take place on the stage of Puerta de Alcalá, Where “New York” will be the baseline of the Show, to announce World Pride New York City 2019…
